I recently purchased a 1996 Hunter 336. The compression post has a line coming out of the top with a nylon roller. I beleive it is for a sash weight. The line runs through a hole in the table top. The line is to short to allow the table to drop down into the bed position and there are no counter weights on the line in the compression post. Was this a counter balance for lifting the table and how do you access the weights in the compression post? Thanks, Art Schwab

Yes it is

There is a counter weight or was one on the end of the line. It is to help counterbalance the table when raising or lowering it. If the line has come untied from the weight, then you have a problem. You will need to remove the post to get to the weight. But of course you will have to remove the mast first in order to keep it from going through the cabin top. Set the table where you want it and tighten it and leave it there.
