331 Waterline problem

I have a problem with the waterline on my 2001 331. When the water tank is full the bow sinks and the waterline creeps up into the bootsripe. In fact, the water tank must be kept nearly empty to keep the waterline just below the top of the antifouling paint. I identified this problem to Beneteau in August 2001 but they still have no clue as to what is causing this to happen. My boat is loaded normally and has no extra equipment near the bow. Beneteau wants to place approx 300lbs of lead near the transom to balance the boat. My regional sales rep tells me that this is only a problem for a very few number of boats. Please let me know if you also have this problem and if you have contacted Beneteau for assistance.

waterline

I keep my water tank almost full and my fuel tank is kept full, and I have had no problem like you describe. I'm not sure I would want an extra 300 lbs of lead added to my boat.

what keel do you have?

I have a similar condition - perhaps not as bad - my boat sits at the dock with the port side waterline up about an inch over the antifouling near the bow. I have the shoal draft keel - what do you have? - possibly the lead keel has a different c of g than the iron?? I am not terribly concerned about this - boats rarely sit totally level - Just add your extras to offset - I added a third battery a little further aft which helped a bit - I may also raise the bottom paint line next season.

waterline problem keel

I have a shoal draft keel also. My 331 also lists slightly to starboard. I am able to offset most of the listing thru equipment loading. My regional sales rep says that most of the 331's list slightly. I seem to have the waterline problem worse than most other 331's. I must have the water tank nearly empty to keep the waterline below the top of the antifouling paint. My beneteau rep tells me that Beneteau has no clue what the problem could be but I have a theory. I think there is a bad batch of shoal draft keels out there. The bolt pattern and bilge sump cavity could be offset slightly to cause the cg to be too far forward when the water tank is full. A new keel would be a costly fix for Beneteau. That is why I think they want to go ahead with adding weight to the transom. I am almost positive that this will only make the stern sit too low while raising the bow slightly. They are going to try adding weight to a new boat being delivered this month. I would like to contact the design group Finot to see what they think.
