Hey all wanted to get some opinions on a method to clean up the transom access that folds up into a seat. the underside (under the grate) is nasty and (seems) to be unpainted fiberglass. I have taken it apart and was wondering if anyone has done anything to clean it up or if you have painted it with anything? It seems like if left down water just sits there.

The part I am talking about is here

(not my boat just an example)

Have you considered FSR? There's a whole host of cleaning products, like TSP and oxylitic acid (in FSR).

Thanks for the reply. I ended up taking it apart (easy enough 5-6 screws) and giving it a light power wash which got most all the mold mildew off and Then gave a light spray paint of some rustoleum anywhere

I use Marine Spray Nine to clean mine. The starboard platform on the underside, I used a nylon pot scrubber and the Spray Nine or could use fine Scotch Brite. Yes, they are a bit of a pita, I take mine apart once or twice a year to clean out.
