33 Haulout and Renovation

I plan to build a trailer to haulout the 33 and put in my backyard. I am two blocks from the Intercoastal Waterway and a very nice public landing. I am looking for any information about how to build a cradle - spacing of stands, balance points, taking the mast down and all. Wow! it's a big project but plan to have a very nice 33 in a while.Any help?Porter Claytorporter@LCE.com also

close enough to help. I have thought how nice it would be to have my H37C close to the house for a year. Think of all the work you could get done! Heck with the grass and leaves.For a trailer I would look for a very used low-boy, something used by a construction company for their front-end loader for example. For the cradle I would measure one at the marina, carefully. Then use cardboard to get the correct shape for the supports. Four layers of 3/4" plywood screwed and glued should suffice. My own H37C cradle is made of 4" channel iron. Two beams run longitudinally in the center about 12" apart(6" off center). Between these run four or five 12" sections of channel on which rest a six-foot 2x12. The keel takes all the weight of the boat on this 2x12, the cradles are only to balance the boat. Expert (or crazy) help here

My 1983 H 33, spends it's winters on a cradle which is mounted on a trailer and sits in my yard where I can work on it any time I want. I'm about 1/4 mile from a marina off of Barnegat Bay. The trip is made at no more than 10 MPH.My advice is to locate and beg, borrow, buy a cast-off cradle from a dealer or yard. Most of them would love to have someone haul the thing away. The foreign built boats are all shipped in on cradles, as well as most of the domestic boats. The cradles almost all run about 6' wide by 12' long. I was lucky in that mine is the one that came with my boat. The cradle is slapped on top of a 3 axle trailer I picked up for $300. It's no beauty but it does the job.It appears you plan to haul the boat yourself. I have my doubts about that as it would take one hell of a truck to haul that 12,000 pounds or so plus trailer out. My trailer itself weighs around 3000 pounds itself. This is one area where I give in and let the marina do it. They have the equipment to handle the work. I am there with them the whole time so the work gets done my way. Whatever projects you plan for your 33 I've probably already done on mine. Feel free to ask away.samlust@monmouth.com
