I purchased a Delta Quickset 44 pound anchor for my 33.5. The bow roller seems to be large enough to house the anchor, except I need to cut the bent rod that prevents the anchor from bouncing up and down in rough water. I plan to secure it with a bungy cord. Has anyone else changed their anchor to the 44 pound delta? I have attached two pictures showing my bow roller arrangement, I believe it is the original one that came with the boat. Any comments would be appreciated.

It appears that you may have a Danforth style and not a Delta. I don't think that you would want to alter that rod. When you deploy/retrieve the anchor it will allow the anchor to tilt down properly.

Maybe you should consider a better way to secure it in the anchor well?

I would not modify the bail that holds the anchor down in the bow roller. A bungy would not be strong enough in rough seas, IMHO.

I would just attach a line to the anchor and pull it back tight against the bail and the roller.

I was not very clear in my ramblings. The anchor shown in the picture is a danforth which came with the boat. We are not happy with that anchor as we drag a lot. I purchased the Delta Plow to replace the danforth, but the tail on it is higer than the bail, that is why i want to cut it off.

Replace the bail with one that accommodates your new anchor. If you search the various marine hardware suppliers or resalers on line, you may find one ready made that fits. Otherwise, take the one you have now to a machine shop and let him cut it and insert/weld in extension pieces so the bail accommodates your new anchor. The modification might actually be the cheapest/quickest way to do it. Any good welding or machine shop can do the job.

I got my 44 pounder installed. I will try it out this weekend. After all was said and done I did not need to cut the bailer. I have attached a photo of the anchor installed.
