320 under power - how fast?

I am contemplating a 326, it has a yanmar deisel, 18 HP. Is this sufficent? How fast will it moter? I live in Mystic and encounter some pretty fast tides at times, so I don't want to water ski, just want to be able to overcom a 5 knot tide if nessasary. Thanks

326 power

I don't know what the 326 will displace, but my 33.5 displaces about 11,000 lbs and the 2GM20 is a little underpowered.

I'm not sure about the 326 but I can tell you that our 340 with a 3GM30 (27 hp.) is acceptable. We usually motor around 6.5 knots in flat water at 2800 rpm. Trying to motor into a 5 knot current would probably be pretty frustrating in any sailboat...

I have a 320, and the 326 is going to be using the same hull

6 Knot at 2900 RPM's

My engine 18 Hp on my 320 will do 6 knotat 2900 rpms with little vibration. Needless to say at full tilt booty you are looking at maybe 7 knots. No current to speak of in my area.
