Hello -

I am the proud new owner of a 2000 hunter 320. One of the first things I want to replace is the main halyard. The current one is tired looking and hard to grip in the hand or self tailing winch. I was going to go with the Sta Set X. Does anyone know the length and dimension that I need?

I was hoping to avoid making a trip to the harbor. I might do jib sheets at the same time if you also happen to have that info.

Also, what do you guys think about splicing for the shackle vs a bowline?

Thanks.

Gareth

In my humble opinion, Sta-Set X is a wiry, miserable line. We offer many types of line, Samson XLS Extra T is probably most comparable in terms of stretch. We also offer many different shackles, from budget Ronstan shackles to the more upscale Wichard thimble shackles and snap shackles:

Nothin' wrong with tying a bowline, but an eye splice is nice.

Dave: I could not agree with you more. I have StaSetX for my main halyard and I plan on replacing it.

gareth, I suppose your 320 is same as my 326:
Mains halyard 3/8" x 89 ft XLS
Jib sheet 7/16" x 30 ft LS (2 length)

Thanks - I think I will go with the XLS from the store here. Sounds like StaSet X is not the way to go.
