30T Refrigeration How To?

Ice Box Conversion

Hi Bill,Just finished installing the Norcolder conversion on our 30T a la vie.So far so good. Really haven't given it a shaedown yet. Boat goes in the water this Thursday, we will go up Thursday eve to make sure she is tied off and also turn on the unit. Friday i expect a cold one when we get there after work.Install went pretty well, I have some engineering issues, mainly the screws that anchor the unit are positioned under the connections for the copper tubes and hard to get at but doable. Other than that a nice installation.I have removed the alcohol stove and have a microwave mounted in the hole. Behind that is the compressor, just aft of the ice box itself.What conversion unit are you thinking of usingGood luck, if you have any questions let me know!Steve

Just finished the Job...

I did an Waeco CU54 compressor and an VD-07 coil on my 89 30G. Put the compressor in the starboard sette. Used a waeco MPS35 (multiple power supply) which automatically switches from battery to shore power when connected. I also put a small Jasco electric pump on the box drain with a momentary switch tyied into the galley sink drains to clear the box of residual water. I know, alot of information... Back to your questions. The copper line comming of the coil is fairly fexible, but make your radius slowly and maybe use a can or something for support of the line. The best advice I can give is measure, measure, measure! Bring a line snake to route the 12 volt wires back to the panel. The 110 side of the MPS was piggybacked off another outlet I had at the galley. My assuption is that I will not be pushing more than 15 amps total across all of my outlets (i.e., no microwave, or other heavy draw stuff). If you do run alot of heavy draw stuff you will have to run a seperate 110 line to the board with its own breaker. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions I can help you with.
