Hi all. I have a wet deck where the furler lines penitrate the deck at the anchor locker. I'm planning to resurface the cutout with epoxy inder the stainless covers. I thought I'd then paint the epoxy for UV protection.

My question: Have you seen a better way to seal this area?

do it the same way as sealing any penetration ...do an over sized hole on the top side and fill it with thickened epoxy then redrill through the new fill and paint for uv protection the put your ss cover back on bedding the fasteners with butyl as shown in mainsails article and you should be good to go

This penetration is not a fastener hole. It's about 3/4 inch by 1 1/4 inch and tapered at a compound angle. Not something to just patch and re-drill. That's why I was thinking of cleaning it up and coating with epoxy then paint.

The fastener holes for the covers can be fixed as you suggest (8 #6 ss pan head screws.)

If I remember right, the deck in that area seems to be about 3/4 to 1 inch thick. I'll need to take another look next time I get down there.

I just posted here because my surveyor said this is a common problem on Hunters.
I've no experience with this particualr problem.
