I'm refitting a 1970 HR Mistral 33 and don't want to open up the sealed keel if I don't have to. Has anyone had problems with the Stainless steel cooroding from contact with the cast iron keel where only limited oxigin would be present? I've heard that sealing SS in this manner will promote corrosion of the bolt. also, any ideas on how to remove the pin that forms the lower hinge between the skage and the rudder itself?

Re Keel bolts

I have a 1969 Mistral that has had the bottom, along with the keel refaired and sealed about 10 years ago. As part of the process the keel bolts and nuts were exposed and examined. They were tight and had no sign of corrosion but this is not necessarily the same for all boats. I am also curious about the the rudder shaft and how to remove the rudder.

Sorry not Stainless Steel

for some reason I thought I had read that these were Stainless steel bolts, but I check and the old brochure says regular steel and I also confirmed they are magnetic. Like you I will be refaring and sealing in the cast iron keel. Right now I've emptied the boat of it's interior right down to the fiberglass and will soon be removing the cabin top for the complete rebuild. The rudder will have to be seen to later. Thanks for responding though. How does the Mistral perform off the west coast? thats were I intend to launch this refited one. SAT
