I've noticed the deck around my mast has bowed in a little. Maybe 1/4" down and about 2" around it. I understand that there is plywood under the deck that has most likely rotted. I plan on taking the mast down and cutting around the area and beefing it up with glass. This is something that only effects the deck and not the mast right? Has anyone been thru this before? Any words of wisdom? Thanks

May be the I-beam in bilge

The sagging cabin top may be due to corrosion of the steel I-beam in the bilge that supports the mast compression post. It's a somewhat common problem and there are several posts on this forum by owners who have dealt with it. I suggest you search the forum for "I-beam" or "compression post". Bon Chance...

Mast step sag

There has been much written about this very problem. It seems to be inherent in the early Cherubinis. I'm getting ready to take the stick off my '77 30 and address the problem correctly. I do know that the core under the mast has gotten wet and compressed and dished the step area. I'm hoping that is the only problem, but am going to remove everything to get a look at the compression post as well. Will post to the Cherubini forum as this progresses. -Roland S/V Fraulein II
