I have A Hunter 30' 1978 and need a hot water heater to replace the one I just removed. I had a very hard time getting old one out of the boat. Had to take off the outer casing to remove from the port side (bunk) opening. The casing was 14" and the opening was 11.5". Has anyone ever put in new heater, how did you do it. Thank you Bob S.

By way of the galley

I have the same problem on my 30 I have looked over the situation and I think that the way to the hot water heater is to go through the galley. I think the counter must have gone into the boat at the end of the production line. When I work on the tank I am going to remove the sink and counter top. While I am at it I will do a better job of insulation of the walls of the converted (ice box) frig.

Go with a different shape...

I replaced the water heater in my '81, 30 with a square, stainless model that simply went in through the lazarette and easily secured. Getting the old one out was a three hour job. Putting the new one in took about fifteen minutes. Good Luck, Len

out is good

i wondered how anyone would get the heater out _ very well thought method you used, i never considered working it out of the boat from the port side _ i just looked at the thing and took a saws all to it _ it came out in three neat little chunks, since that time the clubhouse shower works for me. I did install a insinkerator heater at the head and the galley_
