would a 3 bladed 14 x 11 prop work well for Hunter 33 with 2gm engine? Currently have 2 bladed 14 x 12.

Best Upgrade I've Made

I changes the prop on my '70 H33 last year from a 2 bladed feathering Max-Prop to a 3 bladed fixed prop. It was the best change I've made. I have not noticed any lost performance under sail, although I don't race so I don't really track performance. Both docking and negotiating river currents (I have to travel about 1-1/2 to 2 miles on a river to get to/from open water) is far better with the 3 blade. Tom FitzGibbon S/V Plan B

Go to the Yanmar web.

Go to the Yanmar web page. There you will find a chart listing all of their motors and recommended two and three blade props. I believe that they recommend a 13X12. Since a three blade gives you a 50% increase in blade area, you can afford to go down 1 inch in diameter. Changing the pitch would reduce potential boat speed. I used their recommendation of going down one size in diameter on my last boat, which was an underpowered Paceship 26 with an 8HP Yanmar diesel. I got about an extra knot and better drive through waves. Manny

Thats what I would do.

Dear Glenn, If I were to change out to a three blade I would use the 14” x 12”. You will see quite a difference in the maneuvering performance once you make the change. Good luck, Sincerely, Kevin L. Woody
