I have a 2GM Yanmar in a 89 Hunter 30. What are your thoughts on putting on a 3 blade prop to replace the 2 blade. Better power, less vibration, more reverse control? Any thoughts appreciated
i have the same boat except in a 1990 model and replaced the original two blade prop with a jensen geared folding prop with wonderful results...good reverse and forward thrust and a big difference in speed under sail!
go for a 3 blade! I just went for a sail on my old 29.5 with the new owner, and he replaced my orig 2 blade with a fixed 3-what a difference! much more control, better all around performance in river current, and much better backing, and smoother, too. A feathering 3 blade would be best if you can afford it, but the fixed worked really well-and the 29.5 is very similar to your boat, same engine...
I wouldn't mind having a more powerful propeller, but some people have seemed to indicate that 3-bladed props don't have as much prop walk. I can even imagine why this might be true, given my limited understanding of the physics of prop walk.However... I like prop walk! I wouldn't be able to get my boat into its slip without it, or perform half of the other maneuvers that I make frequently which count on prop walk effect.Do 3-blades just push the boat harder, or do they eliminate or significantly reduce prop walk, too?
We are looking at both 2 and 3 blade floding/feathering props for our 376. However we need prop walk to get out of our mooring (tied between 2 pilings) ANyone kion of a way to have both less drag and prop walk?RussellS/V Allie Kat
