3 Blade Prop Bottom Line

I own a 2001 Hunter 340 with the standard 2 blade prop. I am very interested in a 3 blade, and problaby the Max-Prop since my local yard sells it and I am impressed by all I have read about it. I have read all of the archive posts about 3 blades and most folks seem happy with them. I sail SF bay and I am looking for a prop that can give me good command in the close space of a marina during heavy winds, and good backing power and control so I can back into my slip. Here is my question - to those of you who have gone to the max-prop on a H340, was it worth the approximate $3,000? Did you get better torgue and control that made the investment worth it? I know this is rather subjective, but I would like to know if you would still do it all over again? Thanks for any info. Rob s/v Dream Quest

I have a Max 3 blade on my H380

Rob, et. al., I have a Max prop (3 blade) on my 1999 Hunter 380 and believe it to be the best investment that I put on my boat so far. I teach for ASA and the Power Squadron Seamanship and Sailing on the boat and enjoy the control I have when under power. I have on a number of occasions backed the boat into tight slips, turned the boat around in fairways that i could not do with another boat with a standard prop. I also believe that when in rough seas (choppy, etc.) we maintain boat speed better than another 380 with a standard two blade prop. One advantage with a three blade (standard or Max) is that your motor will run smoother and will make quite a difference when a person is below with the engine running. But backing down will be your greatest advantage and you can back down and sign your name with your bow wake. Having a sugar scoop stern, being able to back into a slip becomes important. Les

Would not want it any other way

We have a 3 blade on our 376 and the amount of torque that I have in comparision to a 2 blade is very noticeable. Another slipholder commented to me the other week after we backed in under high winds into our slip that his boat would never do that...my only comments is that we had a three bladed prop... We do not have a max-prop...just the standard that came with the boat. ...Larry...

If you go Maxi I would suggest the VP. The

ability to adjust the pitch to your boat is a valuable asset..

Rob; I have a Max-Prop on my Beneteau 40 and I love it. It was already on the boat when I bought it and it works great, even in reverse.
