Kevin,(at PYI)could you please tell me the proper size 3 blade (fixed) prop for a Hunter 336.It is appx 11500 lbs in weight and has a 3gm30f Yanmar engine with a 2.62 to 1 gear ratio (not 100% sure of ratio),it now has a 16x13 right hand 2 blade prop,on a 1 inch shaft. The engine is rated at 27 hp max (3600 rpm) and 24 cont. ( appx 2900 rpm). I was thinking about a 15 x13 3 blade. Is this correct or what size would you suggest? Thanks Pete

Correct prop

Hi Pete, The correct propeller for your boat, with the Yanmar 3GM30F, which is rated at 27.3HP at 3600 RPM, and paired with the 2.62:1 gear reduction, is either 17x10, 16x11, or 15x12 all 3 blade. The general rule is to go with the maximum diameter that your hull will allow, then get the pitch in line with the size. The general rule to props is when you take one(inch) away from diameter, add one(inch) to pitch, or vice versa. With your hunter, I would suggest using the 16x11 inch 3 blade prop on that 1 inch shaft you got there. Sometimes specialty props like feathering or folding equate to different sizes. Check with Hunter to see what they recommend for maximum diameter, and go from there. Fair winds.....
