I have a 1980-H33 with a 2QM-15 eng. & a 3-blade 14" prop. According to Mack Boring the hp rating on the 2QM-15 is 15hp at 3000 rpms but for long distance traveling it should run between 26-2800 rpm at 14hp for less carbon build-up in the engine. Running the eng. at a lower rpm for an extended time causes carbon build-up. My boat cruses at 5.8 to 6.2/ -+ a clean bottom and prop. Problem: not enough hp to push a 12-14000lb. boat through 25-30kts of wind not to mention the 4-6ft seas.

Sorry about the last entry, hit the wrong button (again). I have an 81 Hunter 33 and fortunatly for me the previous owner replaced the engine with a Westerbeke 21A. This motor is rated at 21 HP. He said it was replaced for the same reasons as your problems, the 15 hp motor simply could not push the boat into the wind and heaven forbid there be any type of seas on the nose. I can say that with the 21 HP this boat will power into the wind and seas with respect. I can't say this is your only option but I can say that it works. If your motor has a lot of hours on in than consider it, I know it is not a cheap option but I have no worries when motoring.
