In repainting the transom of my 79 H33, the tipping operation of the 2part polyurethane paint ended up partially filling the number recesses and partially obliterating part of the id number, making it difficult or impossible to read. Is there another location on the boat where Hunter affixed this ID Number? If so where.

If you have a title to the boat the HIN will be on it.

I was afraid of that happening to me

I recently repainted the transom on my '79 H33, and worried that the same thing might happen to me. What I did was simply mask off that small area where the numbers are and basically paint around it. It turned out it looked fine, but if you want to paint over it, you could apply thin coats very carefully to retain the numbers.

Never Saw ...

In all of my crawling over, under, around and through my 33 I have never seen a duplicate of the HIN.

Hull ID

My ID number was also lost. I never found a second one, but, while searching, I found an old plaque with a CG Document Number under a seat. Upon sending this info to the Coast Guard, for a very small fee, they provided a copy of the original builders certificate. Not even Hunter could do that. Hope this helps.

Experience enhancing old obliterated number

Since I really needed to provide physical evidence to the local licensing agency, I ended up masking around the number location and since the boat is newly repainted with Interlux Interthand plus, a two part polyurethane, used Interlux Interstrip 299E safe for fiberglass to remove the old paint. Number came back crystal clear to my great relief. Thanks Roy for the tip that the Coast Guard may be able to provide copy of builder's certificate if the boat was earlier documented. Sam, I too have been in every crook and cranny and never found a second number. I think this exchange pretty much establishes that at least for a 79 H33, no second number exists on the boat itself.

Terry check the forward or inside side of

transom, where I found my 2nd hull number painted on. I can view this number by sticking my head into the starboard aft cockpit locker and trying to look up to the hull/deck joint in the locker. this is on a 85 37C
