I'm about to (finally!) move my newly-acquired Hunter 28.5 from winter storage to my marina, about 100 miles down the Chesapeake Bay. Since time will be of essence, I expect to motor whenever the wind isn't favorable. Does anyone know the approximate fuel consumption rate for a Yanmar 2GM20F diesel? (I'm assuming it's about half gal per hour, but would like to get some real data).I realize that wind and sea conditions, as well as displacement (7,100 lbs)will make a difference, but I'm just looking for nominal burn rates for planning purposes.

The 2GM on our H28, cruising at 3,000 RPM,...

burned about 3/4 of a gallon per hour. Terry

Depends on RPM

According to a fuel consumption chart located at http://seamoss.dhs.org/yanmareng.html, fuel consumption ranges from .28 gph at 2200 rpm to 1.22 gph at 3600 rpm. Terry's .75 gph at 3000 rpm is just about dead on, according to the chart. Al

Are those US or Imperial gallons?

I assume they are US but as Yanmar is Japanese and they are metric I thought I would ask.

US, I think

The web site I found the chart on is in New York, so I assume that the numbers are in US gallons, but that's only an assumption. I've sent an email to the site owner and asked. Al

My 3GM on my H376...............

only uses 1/2 to 3/4 per hour. I run it about 2800rpm when motorsailing

You should estimate 1 gal/hr.

Warren: You should calculate 1 gal./hr. (3/4 gal/hr. is probably more like it). This is going to be slightly high but you are better off having extra fuel, rather than too little. Using this calculation you would probably estimate 16 gal at 6 mph avg. speed.
