I know very little about diesel engines (or any engine) and was hoping to get alittle advice/direction before I have go to the mechanics . I have discovered an oil leak on my 29.5. I believe it's oil because 1.) I tasted it and 2.) the oil level on the dipstick was low. It only leaks when the enigne is running. It's a slow drip. And I believe it's coming from (ok, here's where I show my ignorance) the starboard/front side of the engine, just above the impeller, is this the "Fuel filter" ??? I narrowed it down to this "filter" by wrapping a rag around the " filter" and then noticed that the rag was wet and other parts remainded dry. I'm confused because I want to think that this is the fuel filter and that I have bled the engine using the screw on the top. Any advice to get me pointed in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jane

fuel leak

Sounds like your secondary fuel filter is leaking, which is a common occurance. If you have bled the fuel system, the little washer on the bleeder screw is probably the culprit because they wear out. Replace it and see if that doesn't take care of the problem.

You can tell...

...if it's fuel because it will be red/pink. Marine diesel is dyed red. If it's oil it will probably be black.

Thanks...Paul & Stephen

My leak was fuel from fuel filter caused by the plastic washer for the bleeder screw. Thank you very much for the advice. It only costs me $.75 to fix. And I learned a few things. jane
