I've got fuel seeeping out from an unknown source around the fuel pump. Seems to be thru the gasket, but most of the fuel seepage appears to be i n the hard to see space between the pump and the engine block. No fuel is leaking from the in or out fuel line connections that I can determine. The four screws are tight. Any clues? Rather than paying for a mechanic to fiddle around for hours, should I consider replacement of the pump?

Pump leak

Bruce, Had the same problem on my 37.5. Replaced the pump for about $45 with Yanmar new. Then got a rebuild kit and rebuilt the old one for something like $20. It was very simple to work on and kind of "rinky dink". Now I have a spare. The pump hasn't leaked since. Other places have leaked but not the pump. Good luck. Les

Pump Leak

Had a simular probelm and was going the same way as Les did, which is good advice. In the process discovered that the leak was not on the fuel pump at all but in the exit line way up at the secondary fuel filter. It turned out that when the engine is hot the fuel would seep down the solid fuel line (hard pipe) onto the lift pump and go aroung the back side of the pump. I was cranking down on the fitings on the fuel pump until this discovery. Once I found this situation I replaced the copper washers on the lead pipe into the filter and the leak was gone. Still kept the new fuel pump anyway.

Follow up on fuel pump leak

Had the local Yanmar dealer in Portland ME take a look. We decided to change out the fuel pump, but also found ultimately after a day of testing and searching that the culprit was the washer at the filter intake. It would leak only at higher rpm under load. Fuel would seep down and around the pump. Anyway, the Yanmar dealer was excellent and looks like problem solved.
