I was admiring a couple of Hunter sailboats (290 &306) the other day and noticed that the primary winches for the head sail sheets are mounted on the cabin roof close to the companionway. These are two of the boats on my short list for my next boat. I have read the reviews on this site of the 290 & 306 and did not see any notes on the winches or their location. I am interested to hear from any owners of the 290 or 306 about how well the standard winches and their location works for them.

I sailed my 2001 290 6 years with no problem and was very easy to single hand with the travelar above on the arch so easy to use at the helm,yes you will need to leave the helm to adjust the jib or your crew can do it.I now have 2007 H-36 with rear cockpit winches makes it even better,I guess you can add winches too.
