The Chandlery has a sale on wheel covers; I won't be able to get to my 290 before the sale ends; wondered if anyone knew the size of the wheel on a 290/306? I would guess 40" (next smaller size is 28" (too small); next larger is 52" (too big). Anyone able to confirm? Much appreciated.

What about 32" wheel?
I replaced my 28" wheel with a 32" one thru West Marine catalogue. It was something in the $300 to $350 range, and worth every penny! I sit mostly on the leeward side to steer, and the extra 2" in either side really is great!

Difference in model years
I believe your confusion is from the fact that Hunter changed the size of the wheel from the 290 to the new 306. The 290 has a 28 inch wheel while the 306 has a I believe a 52 inch. The main reason is so the helmsman can sit on the side of the boat and steer. With my 290, its kind of a reach for me to sit on the side and steer with the smaller wheel. Although I like the smaller wheel because its easier to get around in the cockpit. The 32 inch might be a good compromise.
