I am considering either a 29.5 or a 310, 2-3 years old. Any ideas on what a reasonable price would be??? I will be doing most of my sailing in Great South Bay, L.I. NY., so I want the shoal draft model (wing keel). I also want a generator, wind indicating instruments and radar. comments on the above appreciated

buy what you can afford in size

You can check what others are asking for on these models in another area of this web site. Click on "blue book" and "go" from how home window (top right of forum page). This will give you a very good idea of what these boats are worth. Note about size: Buy largest you can. You will never wish you bought a smaller boat next season but you could very well wish you bought a bigger one. That extra couple feet of water length will give you better speed, more comfort and room for extras you want and greater sail area. Go for the 31 to 33 for great mid size boat with two private berths and bigger beam. Good luck on shopping! Doug ps we have the 33.5 and love the size. We have no intentions to move up immediately or regrets we would have if we went with high 20's.

What to do !

I got a '94 29.5 with Bimini, Dodger, Radar, Autopilot, Refrigeration, speed, depth, stereo, GPS for $32k and a 1984 Catalina 25 in good condition. Very happy with the design of the boat - sail it in the hudson and in the sound... If I were going to sell it I think I'd want around $45k...

I have a 29.5 and also sail in the Great South Bay. I keep my boat at Long Island Yacht Sales--They are a Hunter dealer, located in Bayshore on Dagnon str. He has several 310's and there are three 29. 5's who slip there. Hunter is constantly changing their models. Typically any model lasts a short time. The 310 replaced the 29.5 which is no loger made. The boats are nearly identicle, with some minor differences . I perfer the 29.5 it is more open in the cabin and I am not fond of the arch. There is more storage space on the 29.5. The best thing to do is go on both boats and see for yourself. Both have a 4ft. draft with a wing bulb keel( the only one offered I think) Incidently the 310 has also been discontinued and replaced by the 320.Finding one of these relatively small boats with a generator will be difficult, you will have to add one and I don't see where one would fit unless you are talking about a portible.29.5's are going for about 45,000,right now. If you have any more questions e mail me at cstoddar@juno.com
