I would like to install a small propane cabin heater our 1998 Hunter 280. The forward exterior of the hanging locker seems to offer the only logical location, however, locating a 2" radius flat area of the deck to exit the exhaust stack - without routing it through frequently travelled interior headroom seems to be a problem. Would appreciat comments from anyone with experience with this. Thanks. Dave G.

I used Natural Gas

Hi D, I installed a Force 10 Natural heater in my 1978 Hunter 27' about 9 years ago. I placed it on the Port side bulkhead facing sternward. It is very efficient and safe(except for people walking around down below in plastic bags for rain wear.. you'll relate to that with our B.C. weather). I installed two 2500psi tanks on board. One is strapped down as the primary supply in the Starboard footlocker against the bulkhead and the 2nd is strapped in the same locker more towards the stern. Do think about Natural gas if you plan to spend your time around B.C. waters. There are now lots of suppliers throughout the coast. It is much safer to have Natural Gas on board as opposed to Propane, and much cleaner burning.
