I recently cracked the sliding cover for the companionway on my '87 28.5. Does anybody know what material it is made from (Lexan or Plexiglass?) Has anyone replaced their companionway cover? What is the best method to remove and reinstall?

Call Hunter

I have not broken that yet. It is easy to take off. Just remove the wood slides above deck and in the cabin and slide it out. I would suggest you call hunter 800-771-5556. They should have the part or will give you the manufacture that can replace it. They helped me with a new rudder and hooked me up with fossfoam. Good luck.

Hatch way

Rob, If I were you I would remove the hatch as Bill says. If you are interested in keeping some money in your pocket, call a plastic shop. They will be able to match the cover to color and type of plastic. They may even recomend a better plastic. It is well the look see. It's the same thing Hunter does. Good Luck.

another possibility

You could call Acme Plastics in Paterson Nj. They made/cut plastic companion way slats for a contributor a few months back. They may be another option for making/cutting the cover. Jim McCue

Let me know how it goes

Last year I dropped the boom on the hatch cover as I was rigging the boat in the sping and broke the hatch. I have seen the inside and outside teak trim pieces to open and close the hatch, but it appears there are two pieces of plastic attached at the corners at the back of the hatch to keep it from sliding out of the track. Let me know if that is what you found and how you got them off. My email is anyeessex@aol.com. Thanks. Alan
