I am in the process of re-building my DC power distribution on my 85' 28.5. Both my starting battery and my house battery were located under the starboard cockpit settee providing me with a starboard list. I am relocating my house battery to the space under the galley sink (I think I have seen that in a thread here somewhere). Can some of you 28.5 guys fill me in on your battery locations, and if one is located under the sink, how in the cable run back to the battery switch. It looks as if I will have to bore new holes through the stringers. Thanks Scott

battery

The original location of the single battery on your 28.5 was under the galley sink. Someone must have relocated the batteries to the stb. lazarette when they installed the second battery, because there isn't room for two under the sink. Most 28.5 owners make this modification eventually. Personally, I would leave them where they are. The list is annoying but harmless. The closer they are to the starter (shorter cables) the better.

Batteries

I would agree with you, do not like the list, my house battery is located under the sink in the galley and my starting battery is located on an installed platform under the storage compartment on the starboard side of the boat in the stern. The battery comes right out after the insert is picked out. And there is limited list.

Batteries to starboard, beer to port

Scott, I have a 1987 28.5. The original single battery was located under the galley sink, but a previous owner removed it, and installed two batteries in the stbd. lazarette (one cranking, one deep cycle). There is a 1-2-Both-Off battery switch in the lazarette, also, as well as a 110VAC battery charger. I've not noticed any significant heel, as long as the icebox on port side is kept full of beer. Good luck. Eric Lorgus s/v Explorer 87H285

Steve, beer & holding tank both on port side

Steve, Talk about a great design! Drink all you want -- just be sure to pee in the head and not over the rail. By Saturday night, list is more pronounced for crew than boat.

House battery is below v berth

My 1985 hunter 28.5 has the house battery under the v-berth...cables run down the port side (low) to the battery selection switch. This swithch is under the sink, as is the starting battery. Hope this helps. John
