We bougth a 1986 28-2 last year. The head sail had been replaced with a 150% furling genoa. It is a nice upgrade that no dought had to be done. Now its pretty easy to see that the main should be replaced. We use the boat mostly for cruising with probably 6 to 10 club races a year. So the question is, what would you recomend for roach, foot, reefing (shoaldraft) and any other thing that would help. Thanks, Ron

Use the original drawn plan from pearson any sailmaker should have the specs for a standard dacron cruising sail. If not you can call Thurston sails in Warren RI they made all the original sails for Pearson 1975 P26w #76 Whitecap Bob Fox

You can find the standard specs for a main for you boat below, or at any good sail loft. Unless you are pretty sure of what you want, you may be best served to visit a reputable sail maker and discuss your needs with him. While factory specs will produce a main that will fit your boat, the sailmaker will be able to dicuss the need to modify those specs, up or down, depending on your boat and how you use it. He'll also be able to help you decide on important other factors like sail cloth and weight, reefing systems, type of battens, a cunningham, etc. Of course there is a price for this kind of service (as opposed to using a mail order loft), but in the end you may find that, like me, it is worth it.
