I am new to inboards and am concerned about the up coming winter. Is there anything I need to do to the boat before winter? Here in Ft Worth it does get belok freezing but seldom stays that way for any lenght of time. My main concern is engine coolant. Thanks Jim

Winterizing your boat

I have a 272LE also. Winterizing your boat is actually pretty easy thing to do. If you have the original manuals for your boat it tells you in there how to do it. If not, you have to do the traditional things like pump your holding tank and drain your fresh water tank. Then for the fresh water, dump a gallon of RV anti-freeze into the tank and run the pump until you see pink out of all the faucets. For the holding tank, flush the anti-freeze down the stool. That way the lines are full and it gets into the tank for the little thats left over in the tank. Now for the engine. You have to pull off the raw water line at the pump and put on a line that you can use to suck the anti-freeze from the jugs into the system. Once you have the hoes connected to the pump on one end and in a jug of anti- freeze on the other, just start the engine. The pump will do the work for you. This takes about 3 gallons. You run the engine until you see pink out the exhaust. Thats about all that is involved with the exception of making sure your bilges are empty too. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions feel free to e-mail me. Fair winds Gerry

thanks

I am wondering about coolant still since the lake water temp never gets below the lower 50ish and I hope to sail all winter long if a 60 bulb in engine compartment would be enough or if the chance of power failure is too great to take a chance. (What a run on sentence) jim
