We bought a 272 ODay that has a 28' main sail. The previous owner said that it doesn't matter. Should we invest in a 27' sail for our old O'Day?

The only question is:

How well does the 28 fit? And how good a shape is it in. Vic "Seven"

According to the sail loft link in the chandlery on this site the 272 has a P measurement of 26.08' and an E of 10.5. The 28 has an P measurement of 30.5' and an E of 10.0 so you have a fair amount more sail area than the designer called for. (edit: actually it works out to about 15 square feet, or 11%, more so maybe that's no big deal). I'm surprised the main from the 28 will fit on the 272 with all that extra height but if it works that's all that counts unless you are trying to conform to a PHRF rule or something like that. Has the sail for the 28 been cut down? Do you feel like you heel too much when it gets windy? http://shop.odayowners.com/detail-sails.htm?fno=60&cart=11599086526689197&xbrand=Oday&next=1

Good shape but baggy and points less than others

That would be great if you want to look at 272 -- it will be here until Monday, 10/9.
