signifigance of a 27' sailboat?

Hmmm, right off the bat I would say that the signifigance of a 27 foot sailboat is that it's the intermediate size between a 26 footer and a 28 footer.... But, maybe it has something to do with trailerability.... then again, maybe it doesn't. In the "grand scheme of things"... I think two sailors in similarly sized boats can't help but want to race each other. So one 27 footer might beget another, and another, and another..

Your question is not stated clearly.

Why don't you let everyone know you have a Santana 27 and rephrase your question and you will get some informed answers. Regards, Big Joe

Look at regulations

Look at transport regulations ... an 8 foot beam does not require special permits for transport. At somewhere around 26-28 feet some of the requirements for the boat change. Taxed differently in some places. In some places boats below a certain length have requirements for maximum capacity (people/load/engine power). 26-28 feet is just big enough not to require some of the swamped stability tests etc. that smaller boats must pass. 26-28 long by 8 feet wide is a "normal" beam/length ratio. This size boat is also about the size of the IOR "1/4 ton" boats. It is also about as small as you can go and some semblance of standing headroom, an enclosed head, and an inboard engine. These are the smallest "big boats". There are several reasons for boats this size being built by lots of different builders.

no motor?

yet you want to spend money changing the rig. Hmmmm.... In california we only pay $10 per year to register our boats. Motor or not... for anything over 8 feet.
