26S Trailer Requirements?

I bought my boat used, paired with an old trailer, which needs to be retired. Any suggestions for a new trailer, or general specs, will be appreciated. The marina where I keep my 26S is suggesting a single axle trailer with a 2300 pound max. The 26S weighs less than that when the ballast is empty, but more when filled. The trailer would only need to support an excess weight for a brief time period while the keel ballast is draining, but I'm still concerned about that approach. I'd appreciate input from others, especially 26S owners who have actual experience with trailering. Thanks.

Go big Frank...

Personally I don't think 2300# is enough. You would be amazed at how much all that stuff that you are going to pack in that thing will weigh...I weighed my trailer AND boat once on a commercial scale at the start of a two week vacation...result 3900# a lot of people don't beleive that number pointing to all the information in the MAC brochure but they have not weighed their rigs either. Don't worry about the ballast it's only there for a short time and the trailer is not really "working" going up the ramp and parking lot at walking speed so I don't think that's a factor worth considering. Better still rig your tank so that you can get rid of the ballast while still in the water (boat will float 4-6 inches higher and you won't have to go in so deep to retreive it) Simple to do using a little plumbing and a 12 volt car vacuum/inflator...Happy trails, F
