I've always wanted to install a floor in the laz. Never liked the idea of putting heavy stuff right on the hull, not to mention sometimes there's water in the bilge. I've seen plenty of examples of wood floors, but wasn't too crazzy about that. I thought I'd try to make a support system out of PVC. I used 3/4" sched 40. I made it in two sections. Each section fits through the laz hatch. Seems to work well. Easy to remove for cleaning, won't rot, not permanently fastened. I'm going to add some type of rubber matting over the whole thing so smaller items won't fall through. But even the way it is works good. Only cost a few bucks to make. Very easy, I didn't even glue the pieces together.

Pressure Points??

Doug, It looks like you have two legs towards the middle of the laz, is this to level the area? I'd wonder if putting heavy items might put too much pressure/stress on those two legs and create more problems in the future with respect to your hull...maybe have more legs throughout so that it doesn't isolate all the load to those two legs....just a thought. Nice idea to flatten the area for more comfortable storage..mine came from the PO, he made it from 2x4s and it works okay.. -Sean

Point well taken

I believe the strongest part of the hull is right there in the middle. Also some of the load is carried to the sides and the piece that run across the most aft part. I appreciate what you're saying. What I could do is provide something on the forward bulkhead to hold the load, instead or resting on the legs. That would be real easy to add. I may do that just to be on the safe side.
