I have heard that the 26m has problems leaking, as well as, listing to starboard. Can anyone that has taken delivery of a 26m expand upon this? I am getting ready to purchase one and I am having second doubts. Also, If I do purchase this boat, I am going to put the Yamaha60 high thrust engine on. Does anybody have any information on this engine and putting it on the mac 26m? Thanks

Not a problem (yet)........

Scott: I have a new M and it doesn't seem to leak or list. The leaking (at least some of it) has been traced to the hole for the steering shaft and the factory is supposed to be working on a "boot" to fix the problem. Aside from this the M probably has the same problem with leaks as many X's. Just need to check the chainplates, etc. As for the listing, I suspected a problem before I even ordered my boat so I had the starting battery and gas tank moved to the port side. I also moved my water tank to under the v-berth and am adding a second house battery. This counter balances the heavy starboard side (galley & head). Good luck. Tony Kriz

Yamaha T60

My new 26M will be delivered in a couple of weeks, and I had the same question about the motor.I got many responses and ended up talking to a lot of dealers. The verdict was unanimous...consider a Suzuki (Johnson) 50 EFI. I'm told there isn't much advantage in the 60 high thrust due to weight difference (although it really isn't much more than a regular Yamaha 50). I believe the only advantage you'll get is lower speed torque. I might be completely wrong as I'm just going by what people tell me. I'm DEFINITELY not an expert on outboards. The consensus was to get away from a carburated engine and go with fuel injected. Suzuki has the only EFI motor in that horsepower range and it is very reasonably priced. Or, you could go with the Johnson 50 EFI which is made by Suzuki and is identical in every respect except the controls are a little different and it is white as opposed to Suzuki's graphite color. (The Johnson really looks good on a Mac 26M...just as a little bonus). Write me back and tell me what you decide to do. I grew up in Savannah and would like to sail around there. I will let you know what I decide.

Kenny, Thanks for the response. I will let you know. The dealer told me that Yamaha would be the engine to go with because of the Savannah area. Not many Suzuki repair shops here. I will have to do more research on the engines you told me about...thanks!!! Where did you order your boat? Boating Atlanta is where I ordered mine. I should be receiving a call soon to confirm the order. The salesman said that I am either number 5 or 6. He is getting boats 3 and 4 delivered either now or within the week. That is neat that you grew up here in Savannah...I have been here two years now and living here, you have to have a boat!! We'll have to keep in touch.

Yamaha T60

I have a 26M that I purchased from Boating Atlanta. Hull #51 if has the Yamaha T60 motor. Had it in the water one time under power but did not go over 3500rpm did great at low speed. I am going in the ocean tomorrow and sail, will let you know how thing go. I do have a small leak when it rains hard. I do like the boat and I liked dealing with Mark at Boating Atlanta.

my new 26m

I am very new at sailing and i had my 26m now for 2 months. I have had it out on the San Francisco Bay many time since i received it. So far, no leaks or water anywhere...I have a Johnson 50hp on it, i have used it to the max, the motor is a great performance and since i am new as i mentioned, have had a few seasoned sailors on it with me, and they all said it handled great...I wish i could tell you more, but i am quite happy with this boat. Good luck on your decision and let us know what you decide...I am really thrilled with this boat.
