Folks,

Here's what I did to combat the dreaded twist when raising the mast. For newcomers, when you rig the jib halyard to raise the mast, it puts a lot tension on the mast (to the point that our mast did not sit straight on the mast base...had to give it a kick to drop).

I used an old jib halyard and ran it to starboard. Pulled it tight. It tighten up even more as you raise the mast. When we raised the mast yesterday, we had NO torque on the mast at all and it dropped right down like it was supposed to.

Not all 260s have this set up. We've got a 1998 with a Charleston Spar mast. Hope this is a worthwhile contribution to the knowledge base.
