Hi,

I'm new to this forum and new to Hunter ownership. My 26.5 is my first "real" sailboat (had a fun little dinghy before). Anyway, I just had to make a new sole panel because the old one got soggy and basically rotted away.

Upon a little poking around, it appears there are 2 separate bilge compartments. The forward one has the pump and float switch. The aft one has the nuts of keel bolts but no access to the pump. This is the one with the rotten panel. It appears there is no connection between the 2 so this one has no avenue to drain.

The question is what do do about it. Do I just manually move water to the pump via a turkey baster? Drill an access hole? Install a 2nd pump/switch (not sure there's room for that)?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

On my 1988 26.5 there is an access hole that allows any water that collects in the aft bilge to drain into the forward bilge. It's been that way since I bought the boat in 1992; as far as I know it was built that way.
