Catalina 27 San Diego, CA
I have a 1972 Catalina 27 that I bought from a man who owned it for 30 years. The outboard on it runs but I am looking at replacing it with something new, that I know I will get many more years of use out of.

I am looking at the Tohatsu 9.8. They make a 25” shaft model designed for sailboats. My boat is the model with the opening in the stern, where the outboard fits on the bottom of the opening. My only concern is if the shaft will be to long and interfere or hit the rudder. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

FWIW, I noticed my neighbor's 27 came from its P.O. with a knotch in the rudder. I know it has a 15 hp Evinrude.
A Long shaft I assume.

My Long shaft Mariner did indeed bump the rudder when I first put it on. Lucky for me the mounting bracket on the Mariner has a 3 position trim adjustment. I set it to maximum and no more bumping. I would make sure there is a trim adjustment on the motor your buying.
