Dress warm, in layers, wear your life jacket, and take a thermos of something hot? Got somebody to crew for you? Either way, file a float plan with someone.

Get some boots and keep your feet warm and dry and with some rain gear you will be fine. Excellent advice to take someone to crew for you as with a little rest now and then the trip would be more comfortable.

Say Lost Parent, did you mean 25 knots of wind, as its usually not measured in kilometers? I see your C 30 has a dodger to help with spray. Guess U don't have time to shop around for a bimini. They can really help take the brunt of rain, as long as its not coming down sideways! W. Marine does sell a cheaper, generic bimini for under $300. Its not the best bimini made, but its a lot cheaper then a custom made model. Biminis also really help to not get burned & baked by the sun in the summer. I would take a shade over a dodger anyday in terms of usefulness. This may also be a good time to invest in some foul weather gear. Remember to go ahead & reef your mainsail before U get out there in the thick of things, which is best when a C 30 gets in over 15 kn. wind. Cheers, & enjoy the ride.

As someone converted to knots above, 25km/hour is about 15 knots - which should be totally due-able in your catalina 30. It will also depend on whether the wind and current agree or disagree. From Sydney to Blaine offers you several "bailout" spots on your route through the San Juan Islands. Where did you intend to check in with Customs? The run from Sydney to Roche Harbor Customs should be less than two hours and give you a chance to see how things are and give you either confidence or assurance about the rest of the trip. Unless the wind is dead on the nose to where you want to go (in which case it can be a rough/tough sail, put up some sails and have a go at it. Experience builds confidence.

Good Luck!
