When I anchor my boat it never hangs strainght back on the anchor. It is always in motion. Yawing back and forth. I have tried tying the tiller and it did not stop it but it did help a little. I have tried with the board up and down no difference. Does anyone have any ideas? saberlin@justice.com

swinging on anchor

My 25 does that also. I think all boats do it to some degree. My Hunter 31 did the same thing and it had a deep 5 foot keel. The shoal keel of the 25 may make the problem worse. The only solution is to set two anchors.

O'Day 25 Yawing?

I have an O'Day 22 and notice the same yawing. All boat will yaw at anchor to some degree. It is due to the wetted surface of the hull responding to wind, tide, and water changes. The O'Day trailerables generally have a flat bootom with a bulb/centerboard or skeg fixed keel arrangement. I suggest that their hull design promotes more swing/yaw than full keel, heavier boats such as Cape Dory and Sea Sprite.

yawing on anchor

I had an O'Day 25 and experienced the same scenario. All boats I've had do. The high freeboard of the O'Day 25 acts as a sail. When the critical angle is reached, the anchor rode becomes taught, the boat tacks, sails the other way, and the cycle begins again. The easiest way I found to compensate, is to tie a line to the rode about 10 feet out from the cleat and take it back to a stern cleat. A little adjusting will find the corect length of line. This keeps the boat sailing in the same direction and prevents tacking. I've found it to work well. PS, you have a very fine boat there. Good luck, John Finch, S/V DOXOLOGY
