Never mind.... I found the answer to my question. But I could not figure out how to delete this post. The 26.5 does not have a pivot mast step and would need a crane to step the mast. The 25.5 can be stepped by two people or one with a gin pole.
Hello Hunter Owners.
Sorry if this question has already been asked... I really did try the search feature first.
I'm shopping for a large trailerable sailboat... and at first I thought I wanted one of the MacGregor 26C models... maybe I still do... but .... I'm thinking maybe I should get a more substantial boat.... even if it is more hassle to rig.
I'm looking at two different Hunters, a 25.5 shoal draft and a 26.5. Both are on a nice trailer. Both look well cared for. The 25.5 has a few more creature comforts (microwave, stereo etc). The 26.5 has the cut out transom (I think I would like that???). The shoal feature of the 25.5 will make it easier to launch off the trailer. The current owner claims it floats right off... so that seems like a plus. The price between the two are within a few hundred dollars of each other. The beams are the same with only a foot of difference in length so the two boats are about equal in interior space and actually it looks like the 25.5 displaces 100# more than the 26.5.
What criterion would you Hunter Sailors recommend I use to help me make a decision?
Are there any known problems with either model? Does one have better sailing characteristics than the other? Is one known for being a good cruising vessel?
Any help, insights, or just plain advice you can offer will be gratefully digested
Fair winds,
