We just bought our 1999 240. We have noticed that the 3-piece plexiglass door to the cabin lets in rainwater. We also see that there is a half-inch gap between the door and the hatch covering the top. We would like to rainproof for trailering and seal up against bugs and dust for the winter in our barn. Any suggestions? Also would like to screen against mosquitoes for camping in the summer, and maybe add an air conditioner that could be used in a slip for really hot days. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

I have an h23 not sure how much different the hatch is on your 240 .When I got new hatch boards from Hunter Marine ,they were too tall and forced the slider up off of its base causing a gap at the top . I planed , sanded the hatch boards for a better fit. I took the hatch boards when they fit properly and laid them down on a sheet of plywood . I traced the outline onto the plywood and cut out the out line of the hatch boards . Then I cut out most of the center of the cutout and cut screen to fit . There was some finishing up as far as trim work but that has been a good hatch screen for us to keep out bugs . For the forward hatch I cut some of the same plastic screen larger than the actual opening and bought some large diameter plastic hose that fits into the gutter of the forward hatch. The screen goes in the open hatch and the hose presses in place to hold it where it belongs , good luck Mike

Are you sure...

...the rainwater is coming through the hatchboards? More likely it is coming through the companionway slider. The gap at the top of the hatchboards is normal on these boats - the slider should "overhang" them an inch or so, thereby keeping water out. However, water will collect on the slider and drip on into the cabin. Best solution is to install a snap-on companionway slider cover. I put a lifejacket between the slider and the Sunbrella cover and water just roles off - no more leaks. Also, you can buy stock hatch screens at the chandlery on this site or just make your own. Congrats on your new boat!
