Thanks for info on trailers! Anything to really watch out for when buying a 240 too far away from home to really study it? Are there any must have extras? I've have had a Com-Pac 16 for 20+ years and I think this might be a little different. Thanks, Don

240 Problems

Biggest problem I had was with the trailer. They are not the greatest, and I burnt up the bearings when the surge brakes got stuck. The boat: I had problems with the mast lining up with the mast step, to be able to pin it. The rigid shrouds were the problem, and Hunter would supply 'adjustable' rigid shrouds if you had a problem, but you had to call and complain a lot. I have heard people complain of the rudder splitting, and one at my marina has that problem. My rudder is fine, and its 7 years old. I had a problem with the centerboard not dropping freely, and it took several trips to the dealer, and finally a second Hunter dearler fixed it. I like the boat. It is not a fast boat, but it is roomy and comfortable, and easy to raise the mast. Those were my priorities. I would recomend an electric start motor, and roller furling on the jib.

240 Problems

Thanks for the Post. The trailer is very important to me because I will be using it a lot. Which brand do you have? Which do you recomend? This boat does not have a trailer, so if I get it I will probably buy a new one. Happy Sailing, Don

Hunter 23.5 Calgary, Canada
Stern rail seats

I don't know if they were standard, but people who have them usually say they're must-have. I added them to my H23.5. A must-have for me (along with the roller furling jib). ...RickM...

240 thangs

1. furling gib 2. center guide on your trailer for boat center board. makes life a breeze. 3. cleat on tiller to auto release rudder "when" you drag the bottom. 3. auto pilot 4. A 5 day cooler "fill with your choice of poison" 6. tiller extention.

Hunter 260 Sarasota,FL
Mine trailers well

Pulled our 2000 H240 over 1000mi from Indiana to Sarasota, over the mountains and through the woods & nearly every weekend since, no trailer issues yet. Launches and loads like a champ. Installed all Waynes easy additions except we have the poor mans autopilot...a tiller tamer. We step the mast with a very slick power winch w/remote, mounted in place of my trailer winch. By far the coolest addition. We have an elec start honda & CDI roller furling jib, our boat came stock with turnbuckle shrouds, and no rudder issues except it kicks up too eaisily. Also filed a stubby sorta point on the mast pin and slightly shake mast to eaisily wiggle pin in. Really like the boat after a few simple tweeks. Biggest downside is having to go back to work all sunburned. Lovin' the 240 so far. Michael
