removehtml]I'm interested in buying a used Legend 240 but my (soft) mooring occasionally dries out. I can see that the keel has a stub that does not fully retract but can anyone advise what effect this has when the boat takes the ground? It must produce an angle of lean I guess, but how pronounced? Many Thanks Paul FeatherstoneError: Error: expected [/URL], but found [/removehtml] instead[/removehtml]

H240 Drying Out

I assume you'll retract the centerboard before the tide goes out. The H240 is not designed to rest on it's keel as other boats are. Also, you have to worry about hidden rocks that might damage the hull. That said, when the H240 centerboard is retracted it only sticks out below the hull a few inches. I've seen at least one picture of an H26 resting comfortably on mud so I assume the H240 will do the same. It is hard to predict what will happen over time. However, the immediate problem you'll probably encounter is you'll be getting mud and other stuff jammed up into the centerboard slot. As a result, you might have problems getting the board to drop down when you need it and will have to periodically dive on it to clean the slot out. Otherwise the boat will sail just fine without the centerboard down - you'll just sail sideways a lot :)
