240 deck hardware

This is just a warning. This weekend I was replacing the dreaded clam cleats when I made a scary discovery.When I removed the panel inside that hides the bolts, I was horrified to find that most of the bolts holding down the cleats AND the deck organizer, were loose. Not just a little loose, some nuts had backed themselves a half inch or so.You would think that this would have been obvious becase the hardware would be loose, but not so. Even with all of the bolts out, the cleats had to be pryed loose from the deck because of the adhesive.Russell HSummer Luvin'

What year 240?

What year is your 240? How often / how much do you sail?This sounds a little scary to me. Kind of Macgregorish! I thought Hunter was such a well build boat. Did anyone else have the same experience? I will check mine out before I start sailing this season.Daniel B.

Winch Bolts ?

Yup, Hunter has yet to discover LocTite. I believe those are the winch bolts under the inspection plate, which doesn't make the situation too much better. The cam cleats which I finally replaced with Spinlock XA-3 are tapped into an aluminum plate which seems to be 'glassed in' to the deck.You have reminded me to inspect and tighten before the sailing season gets underway. As new as your H240 is, I'd bet that they never got tightened at the factory.KenS/V Wouff Hong

My 240 is a 98. I do sail quite a bit and have towed the boat on a 100 mile road trip. As for the winch bolts, it was raining the day I made my discovery, and I haven't yet checked them.good luckRussells/v Summer Luvin'

Russle;This is not normal for the Hunter 240 which also concerns me too as I am very much inolved with the 240 from a dealer stand point. Please call Gregg Emersonat Hunter Marine to advise along with your hull number. Then ask him for mynumber or leave your number with hime as I would like to know more about this as it concerns me too.
