I am considering buying a 2000 model Hunter 240. During the inspection I noticed that it took considerable effort to winch up the centerboard. With the number 6 winch it took a good amount of armstrong. Is this normal? Is it an indication of a bend or damaged CB? How do you know when the board is all the way up?

Same scenario with my 240

Hi,

My 240 is the same. There is a flaw in the design or routing of lines from the CB uphaul down to the rope attachment point on mine. If I go under water and lift it swings up fine. Something in the routing of the line makes it extremely difficult to gain enough leverage to roll the board up into place. Search this site for 260/240 manual for a line drawing of the tackle system. I don't have access to a lift to get under mine so I've been living with it for years.

Having been a Hunter trailerboat dealer when the 240 first came out, you centerboard finding is unusual. If the boat is in the water, have it pulled on a travellift sling and check the trunk for something like a stone or clam shell wedged up inside the trunk (I've seen it happen).

A more extensive issue could be the pivot pin binding, or the pennent binding inside the mast bottom before it exits.
