I am looking at buying a used 240 in Georgia that does not have a trailer. Is there a dual axle, galvanized, with surge brake option available? I want to find a reputable dealer in the Gainesville area. Which brand is best? What should it cost? Who can I talk to? Also, I would really like this boat and trailer to fit though a 107"x 107" garage door. Thanks, Don

Plenty of people will want to sell you a trailer, however, I'd try to get some specs from a Hunter dealer or Hunter customer support. You'll be happier with a trailer made for your boat rather than something that "sorta" works....

Don, I am asuming you are talking about Gainseville FL when you mention Gainsville in your post. The Hunter factory is in Alachua, FL which is driving distance from Gainsville. The customer service number is 1-800-771-5556. Give them a call. You may be able to buy a trailer directly from them and will be guaranteed that the boat will fit like a glove. Good Luck

Factory trailer problems

My H240 came with the factory trailer, which at the time was Magic Tilt. It looks good, is galvanized, and has features like a ladder in front and a tongue extension. But there are substantial problems with the factory trailer: 1) The GVWR for the trailer is for an empty boat - no gear or outboard, and no margin whatsoever. 2) The tongue extension bends when you use it and you have to reverse bend it to get it back in place. The only time I used it I had to jump on it and use a car jack to straighten it out. 3) The bunks are not high enough and too much weight is on the centerboard, causing cracks in either the support lumber, the boat's fiberglass, or both. 4) Customer service dept. apparently doesn't exist. Call Hunter for a barely adequate solution, it that is acceptable to you.

MAGIC TILT TRAILERS

I had problems with the trailer right after I got my boat. raised enough stink that the dealer and Hunter replaced it. The problem came that the extention bar had to go back into a socket on the cross bar(not attached the bar would slip in fine). With the trailer hooked to the car this is nearly impossible to do,especially alone. After I got the second trailer, I was still having problems with the socket. I took the sawzall and simply cut it off. The Magic tilt people say you should disconnect the car and trailer to extend or close the bar. How inconvenient can that be. I chock the tires, pull the pin(which I have changed to something that slips in the hole easier) and drive forward until it goes chunk. Put the pin back in, move the chocks and launch the boat. I leave it extended until I retreive the boat and then simply reverse the process. I did find the trailer is underrated for the boat and would work better if it had 2 axles. The tires wear only on one side like it is out of alignment but there is really not a fix for that. I reversed the tires on the rims and that seems to work well. Remember to keep the tires rolling in the same direction so you have to switch sides as well.
