Hot Soup or other drinks

Winter sailing the best way that I've found to keep warm is plenty of hot liquids. Hot coffee,tea with honey,soup almost anything hot. Good foul weather gear is essential. Waterproof but not sweaty. Once you are wet it is impossible to stay warm.  Motorcyclists have electric vests that the run off the bike's 12volt system. I've never used one but know several bikers who love them. They also make electric gloves. No ideal on how much current they draw but probably not too much as a bikes alternator usually isn't that powerful.

Soooooooooooo..................If I have hot coffee with my hot honey, does that mean we can survive the Arctic?

Don't know about the artic

But nothing helped in Minnesota while ice fishing. Well, I warmed up a little when I hooked a large northern pike. But hot drinks sure helped sailing Mobile bay on a wet day in early January. Great day until some showers got me wet. Never really felt warm again until I ate some gumbo and sauteed crab claws. If you are still cold after some cayan pepper and garlic you are probably dead. A nice glass of brandy makes me feel warmer but supposedly it lowers your core temperature. Cold or not I think that I'd rather be with Phil or on a simular trip instead of at work.  If someone has any current information about Phil please post. Tom

Clothes?

when I did the trip from NYCity to Cape May, I wore my ski-pants. Downhill ski pants. The are water resistant, have lots of pockets with flaps of velcro. In addition I wore a down ski vest and a down ski coat. And a wool blend pull over hat. Very toasty in the bathtub (cockpit) of the boat. We didn't have a dodger, so I rigged a small bimini type tarp from stanchion to stanchion and that cut the wind down enough to make it comfortable. I had an extra set of ski pants and when we rotated shifts, told the captain to wear those, which he promptly did not. Later, I heard him rustling and when I awoke he had the pants on, as well as the down coat.
