24/7 solar vent not working

Our used boat has a 4" 24/7 solar vent installed that isn't working. It "wants" to turn the fan, when I press the start button. It will sort of twitch the fan, but won't spin it.

Can I do anything/try something that might free up the motor?

Battery

As said try new battery but I must tell you as good as they are they
do go bad and even after spraying different kinds of lub and other things I have had 2 go bad and know matter what I tried they just would not work,I guess like anything some times they last for very long time and some times not so long.
I did get get them to work for a while after not working but it was very short lived and it's just boat stuff and did replace with new ones and so far been
doing good and just look at defend or WM for a sale.

West just finished a terrific price sale. Sorry. I was given the delux Nicro as a "boat-warming" (cooling?) gift. It lasted maybe 6 years then died. Testing showed the motor ka-put. Got a new vent, and after just setting it outside it would not run after three days in the August sun. Took it back and West gave me another that worked. I reused the mount and SS cover, so swapped out the inner part. It died in about a year- even with new batteries tried. I think I'll just get the passive, or maybe the non-delux unit. I believe Marinco has bought out Nicro?

Probably the battery if it does not spin without sunlight. In the sun the unit should spin regardless of battery state.

BTW, the older Nicro models are much better in quality and usually last longer than the newer models. Ours was installed in 1997 and besides a couple battery replacements that unit ran continuously until 2013. I found an NOS unit on eBay and that has worked fine since 2013. The battery in it was shot but I replaced it with a new one.

Re: Battery

Thanks, all. I'll check the battery first. And be watching for a sale on them. We have another "hole" already cut in the deck above the galley that we'd like to put one in (the hole currently as a plastic filler/cover that leaks).
