Would someone mind taking a close up pic of the notched end of the mast raising pole. Mine went for a swim and I cant get my boat out without lowering the mast first. I am going to have one made at a local machine shop. What is the overall length of the pole also? Thanks!!!

Specs for 23.5 mast raising pole.

I had a new mast raising pole made for my 23.5 and went with a thicker walled aluminum pole since the original bent. You can buy the swage tool, wire, and swage hardware to fabricate the connector on one end of the pole for the jib halyard and the tackle that connects to the Sampson post in the anchor locker at Lowes. I'll get some pictures tomorrow and post them here for you.

Here are some pictures of my mast raising pole. A local shop located the aluminum material, cut it to length, and machined in the mast end of the pole to fit around the internal channel in the mast. I found the marine grade wire and fittings at Lowes. Lowes even had the swage tool you need to connect the fittings. Since then I have found that my local West Marine store can fabricate these connections for you right in the store if your machine shop can't do it.

I had the local shop find a thicker walled aluminum for the pole that was slightly wider than the hole in the mast but only slightly so. I had to file the hole a little wider until the pole would fit easily. You could get a pole with the original thickness if yours was not bent and save yourself the trouble. My boat came with a bent pole and some bent connectors for the mast stays that I think may have been related to the stays getting hung up where they connect to the deck as the mast nears vertical. Part of the routine now is to check the stays as the mast comes up to make sure they don't hang up.

Hope this helps!

David.

I don't use a pole just help lift it the first few feet then use a winch to stand it up.

I simply clip ours to the mast like a spinnaker pole. It's never in the way, not tearing up cushions inside and always on the boat if I need to lower the mast for any reason. The 30min, .50c mod was to cut the side out of a 3/4" pvc coupling to use as an upper section clip and pop rivet it to the mast. For the base socket I cut a 3/4" pvc 90 in half and bolted that to to the mast base. I also leave the unused jib halyard permanently attached to the cable eye so it can't go swimming......again.

It was just a part of an often used and much simpler mast stepping mod I had done years ago to our 240 and then to our 260. Hope you have a safe summer, Mike
