I’m toying with the idea of replacing the halyard And centerboard haul line clam cleats with rope clutches. Has anyone accomplished this? What clutches did you use? How well do they work?

Thanks,
Bobbi

I've had my 1995 Hunter 23.5 for nineteen summers now. I've never done anything to the centerboard uphaul cleat, and never had a problem with it.

The main and jib halyards went through the double clutch on the starboard side. It broke or wore out some years ago so I replaced it with a nearly identical Spinlock double clutch. My jib furler is a Schaefer Snapfurl, which doesn't use the jib halyard once the sail is inserted into and raised on the foil. So the jib halyard just hangs on the horn cleat on the mast. I routed my boomvang through the deck organizer and back to the unused side of the clutch. Everything works great.

The original setup for the boom vang was unusable for me. By running it through the clutch I went from never using the boom vang to using it all day everyday for all these years.

I'm not sure if I answered your question?

As a former dealer I use to put rope clutches on the 23.5 which I was very much involved with this boat. There are aluminum plates incapsulated in the fiberglass where the cleats are

Yes I've done it. I added three additional clutches on my port side. Which made room on my starboard side for the lift line. I ordered the clutches here from the SBO store. Take a measurement of the space you are going to put your clutches and then contact @Dave Groshong. He is very patient and will talk you through ordering the right part the first time. (Thanks Dave for your past help).
